Dean of the Faculty of Law (FH), University of Djuanda (UNIDA), Asst. Prof. Dr. Nurwati, S.H., M.H. was appointed as one of the speakers at the Studium Generale and Community Service with the theme "Community Development" held on Tuesday (13/06) at the Hall of Kolej Uniti Negeri Sembilan Malaysia. Titled 'The Urgence of Trademark Registration for Small and Medium Enterprises', Dean of Faculty of Law Dr. Nurwati tried to discuss the reality that occurs among Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). "Trademark registration is very important in product marketing for MSME business owners so that the products produced are better known to the public. In addition to being known by the public, it is hoped that MSME product business owners will be able to register and receive legal protection by the Government," she said when delivering the presentation. Furthermore, Dean of UNIDA Faculty of Law Dr. Nurwati said that entrepreneurs who have registered their trademarks can freely use the rights to their product trademarks for a certain time, the legal protection of trademarks is growing rapidly as there is a lot of plagiarism in trademarks. Registered trademark gets legal protection for a period of 10 (ten) years from the date of receipt. "The importance of trademark registration is fundamental because in Indonesia embraces the constitutive system (first to file), registration is very important in establishing the ownership of a trademark. The business owner who has registered the trademark is the only party entitled to the trademark, the trademark will be protected by intellectual property law if it has been registered with the Director General of IP Kemenkumham, "he added. At the end of the presentation, Dr. Nurwati explained the legal consequences if the brand is not registered then the brand does not have legal protection, also so that the brand has a guarantee not to be imitated or used illegally according to the law and to avoid the use of the brand without permission, and also entrepreneurs are able to ask for royalties to parties who use the same brand.
