Wednesday, January 28 2026, the Faculty of Law, Djuanda University carried out an academic visit while exploring research collaboration to two well-known universities in Melaka, Malaysia. The group was first accepted at Universiti Teknologi MARA Cawangan Melaka (UiTM CM).
A warm welcome was officially delivered by Maizatul Saadiah Binti Mohamad, Liaison Officer - Office of International Affairs (OiA). In his speech, he stated, "We at UiTM CM really welcome this collaboration initiative. The exchange of ideas between law faculties from Indonesia and Malaysia, especially in examining aspects of regulation, governance and public policy in the technological era, is very important. We believe this meeting can be the first stone for more concrete collaboration, not only in research but also student exchanges and joint publications."
The visit then continued to Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM). There, the group was welcomed by Prof. Ts. Dr. Shahrin bin Sahib, Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Informatics. In his welcoming speech, Dr. Shahrin emphasized, "UTeM, as a technical university, urgently needs a strong legal perspective, particularly in the areas of intellectual property, cyber law, Industry 4.0 regulations, and technology ethics. The presence of colleagues from the Faculty of Law at Djuanda University opens up significant opportunities for interdisciplinary research. We have the technology and innovation, while you have expertise in legal and regulatory frameworks. We greatly appreciate this synergy."
Following the welcoming session, intensive discussions took place at each university. The main topic that emerged was the potential for joint research. Several themes agreed upon for further development include: Intellectual Property Law Analysis for Green Technology Innovation Products; Regulation and Legal Responsibility in the Era of Autonomous Vehicles; Legal Framework for Personal Data Protection in Indonesia and Malaysia: A Comparative Study; and Legal Review of Smart City Implementation from the Aspects of Governance and Privacy.
As a follow-up, both parties agreed to immediately formulate a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will encompass various collaborative activities. According to Dr. Aal Lukmanul Hakim, S.H., M.H., said the visit was a strategic step. "This is more than just a friendly visit. We have found partners who share our vision in combining disciplines. Collaboration between law and technology is the future, and we are ready to play a role in it through our collaboration with UiTM CM and UTeM," he said.
The event concluded with the signing of an initial commitment document and an exchange of souvenirs. It is hoped that this trilateral collaboration will make a tangible contribution to the development of legal science and technology policy in the ASEAN region. (FH2026)
